Erase your billing information
What can be removed, what the law makes us keep, and exactly how to ask.
You can ask us to erase the billing information we hold, and you can remove your card from Stripe. Some records must be kept by law, so erasing is rarely all or nothing.
What each party holds#
| Who | What they hold | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Stripe | Your card details and payment history | Remove your saved card in your billing page (Update or replace your payment card). Stripe tells people who paid a business to contact that business first, because the business may handle the request. |
| IdeaLine | Billing name and email, card brand and last four digits, plan, amounts, dates, tax details, payment status | Email us (below). We will erase what we can and tell you what we must keep. |
| Both | Invoices and tax records | Usually kept. Issued invoices can be covered by tax and record-keeping rules, so they are corrected or voided, not erased. |
Erase your billing information, step by step#
- Download what you want to keep
Save your invoices and receipts first. See Download invoices and past payments. Your workspace data is separate. See Download everything: your data backup.
- Cancel your plan
A plan that is still active needs billing details to renew. See Cancel your plan.
- Remove your saved card if you can
In your billing page, remove the card, or replace it. See Update or replace your payment card.
- Email us from your account address
Write to hello@idealine.io. Say that you are asking us to erase your billing information, name your workspace, and ask which records we must keep and for how long.
These are IdeaLine-styled illustrations with sample data. Stripe hosts and designs the real pages, so your screen may look a little different and some labels may vary. Zoom in on each part
To. hello@idealine.io Subject. Say what you want. Message. Name your workspace, ask us to erase your billing information and which records must stay.
- Confirm who you are
We verify your request, usually by replying to the email address on the account, and answer within the time the law sets. See our Privacy policy.
- Keep our reply
It lists what was erased and what we are required to keep, and why.
What we keep and why#
Our Privacy policy says billing and tax records are kept as long as tax law requires. Stripe says it may also keep some data where the law allows or requires it. See Stripe’s guide: I would like to delete the information Stripe has collected from me (opens in new tab).
Erasing billing information is not the same as deleting your account. To delete the account or workspace, see Delete your account.
If you use Stripe for other things, such as saving your payment details with a Stripe feature called Link, Stripe has its own steps. Its guide above lists them.
