Request and give approvals

Add ordered sign-off steps, such as Legal review, and approve or request changes.

Studio plan and above1 min read

An approval workflow is an ordered list of sign-offs a project needs before it goes out. Each step has a name and, optionally, a specific approver.

The Approval workflow section.

Zoom in on each part

  2. Step name box
  3. Approver list
  4. Add step button

Set up the steps#

  1. Open the project and scroll to Approval workflow
  2. Type a step name, for example “Legal review”
  3. Choose an approver, or leave Any approver
  4. Choose Add step

Repeat for each sign-off, in order.

  5. Choose Save

Approvals open for sign-off once the project is saved.

Approve or ask for changes#

  1. Open the project when it is your turn

The panel says, for example, “Step 2 of 3, waiting on Sam”. You are notified in the bell and Activity.

  2. Choose Approve & go to next step

On the final step the button says Approve (final step).

  3. Or choose Request changes

The assignee is told. Once they have made changes, anyone with permission can Reset approvals to start again.

Good to know

Only the named approver, or an owner or admin, can act on a step. You need a role with the Approve or request changes permission. See Roles and permissions reference.
