A payment failed or was declined

Why it happens, how to fix it and how to avoid losing access.

Not live yet

Online checkout with Stripe has not been switched on yet. This guide shows how it will work so you can read it ahead of time. Until then, you can pay by invoice. See Get an invoice or purchase order.

If a payment fails, Stripe may try again and we email the billing contact. Our Payment terms explain what happens if it is not resolved.

Fix it#

  1. Check the usual causes

The card has expired, the card is over its limit or short of funds, the billing address does not match your bank’s records, or the details were typed wrong.

  2. Update your card

Add the card again, or add a different one. See Update or replace your payment card.

  3. Complete any bank check

Some banks ask you to confirm a payment in your banking app or by a text message. If you miss it, the payment is declined.

  4. Call your bank if it is still declined

Banks sometimes block online or recurring payments. They can tell you why and allow it.

  5. Tell us if you are stuck

Email hello@idealine.io with the date and amount. We can send an invoice instead. See Get an invoice or purchase order.

Good to know

Stripe only sends a receipt for a payment that succeeds. A failed payment sends no receipt.

Be careful

Do not give your card details to anyone who contacts you saying a payment failed. Open your billing page yourself instead. See Open your billing page.
