Create a project

Add a project from the calendar or the board and give it a date.

2 min read

A project is the basic unit of work in IdeaLine: a campaign, a blog post, an email, a webinar, a report. Everything with a due date shows up on the calendar, and everything with a status shows up on the board.

Three ways to start#

Create a project step by step#

  1. Choose New project

The New project window opens. The Title box is selected.

  2. Type a Title

Titles are required. Keep them short and specific, such as “Fall product launch announcement”.

The New project window. Scroll inside it to see Subtasks, Linked files, Comments and Sharing.

    1. Title box (required)
    2. Status list
    3. Start date box
    4. Repeats list
    5. Assignee list
    6. Save button
  3. Pick a Status and a Type

Status decides which board column the project sits in. Type groups similar work, for example Campaign or Email.

  4. Set a Start date and a Due date

A project appears on the calendar on its due date. The start date must not be after the due date.

  5. Choose an Assignee

The assignee is the person responsible. They are notified when you assign them.

  6. Add a Description / copy

Write the brief, or paste the draft copy. It holds up to 5,000 characters and shows a live character and word count.

  7. Choose Save

The project is saved, a “Saved” message appears and the project shows on the calendar and the board.

Tip

Only the title is required. You can add everything else later. See Open, edit, duplicate or delete a project.

Good to know

You need a role that can create projects. Visitors and Members cannot. See Roles and permissions reference.
